When a modern consumer hears the words iPod software they might assume that “apps”, or applications, are the subject. There are thousands of apps available, and while many are restricted for use with iPod devices, they are not the iPod software being discussed here. The type of software this article will discuss is that which can be used as a tool for proper iPod management.
It is important to remember that iPods contain a huge array of file types. They play music, video, podcasts, recorded books, and TV files. They also take photographs and utilize apps. This means that an iPod has a lot of different information within it, and not all of it is replaceable.
When someone considers using iPod software they must first consider if it is going to be able to help them manage all of this data. This means that the user interface is going to have to be somewhat simple and straightforward. It also means that it should allow the individual to choose from such functions as “copy”, “transfer”, “backup” and “restore” as well.
Why so many actions? Well, for iPod software to be truly effective it is going to have to let the individual choose to remove files to a secure location for storage or later restoration to the device, or to simply copy them to another integrated program that will allow them to enjoy the files on an alternative device, such as a PC.
Additionally, the iPod software must allow the individual to also take files already existing on the PC and copy or transfer them to the iPod too. This is because millions of iPod users are also iTunes users on their laptop or desktop computers. This means that they might purchase a TV program on their computer, but be unable to watch at the time and want to load it to the iPod for viewing “on the go”.
